I had better start before this blog becomes obsolete and what better could I post than with these two memorable videos that rank as one of the best I’ve seen on YouTube. For the first you need to have listened to “Depeche Mode” and if you have you must have listened or watched their big hit “Enjoy the silence” which is also one of their greatest hits performed live. Many years ago while watching a documentary of the band I was blown by the way Depeche Mode could get a stadium full of people to sway and sing to this song in unison. They are able to do that at almost every venue they perform this song. There are an umpteen number of videos on YouTube and you “just gotto to be a fan of this song” before I can go on about the video I’d like to explain.

Enter DMK, a father, son and duaghter trio from Columbia. As mentioned in the title I watched this months ago but writing about it only now. Completely blown by this video and the videos of two other Depeche Mode songs, they were almost on an infinite loop playing on my computer for several days. While the music created with few actual musical instruments (more using household items), the incredible Dad and daughter were wonderful it was the little boy that stole my heart. Listen and watch each time he sings “In my arms…”, it’s just so adorable. This one and the other video on “Everything Counts” have over a million views while the video on “Black Celebration” is almost getting there. The videos were so good that Martin L Gore, guitarist and song writer of Depeche Mode made a comment of the band.

The other video involves a street performer. Her name is Natalie Trayling now in her 80’s playing piano on the streets of Melbourne and winning audiences for two decades now. Bent with age one wonders how she can play the notes so perfectly.

However Natalie’s life has been one of continuous tragedies including the deaths of ther two daughters (one killed in an accident at 6 yrs of age , the other in her 20’s to cystic fibrosis) and her only surviving son who now helps her with her performances and her YouTube and Facebook accounts went through a bout of depression and substance abuse when Natalie’s marriage broke down. This resulted in the loss of his skills to become an artist himself. At times Homeless and struggling with anaemia and hospitalization, her spirit for playing the piano was never dampened. Hoping to find solace she nows plays to audiences on the streets and in venues, some of them ticketed too. God be by her! How beautifully she plays!

A pic of Natalie from her younger days.
